What a perfect way to differentiate and reach all students. And there's no embarrassment with a wrong answer because I am the only one who can see them. Each day they ask if we are going to play a game with grammar. The kids are so excited that they take turns passing out materials. It's become our classroom routine and culture. Every student anticipates the instant assessment of their answer. And if they're wrong they can make a quick adjustment. Then I revisit the student, affirming their response or encouraging to make another. It turns into a game and a great way for everyone to get involved and break up the monotony of grammar.","fullyFundedDate":1746468581055,"projectUrl":"project/keep-going/9194536/","projectTitle":"Keep Going","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Starnes","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9559731_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1718117903132","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9559731"},{"teacherId":9559731,"projectId":8432106,"letterContent":"Teaching this book provided a visual and auditory immigrant experience for these rural students. Reading this book literally opened the eyes of my students as they explored and experienced the culture of South Korea. Students were able to SEE the impact of uprooting as they themselves have experienced similar events. In my room, kids love to read aloud. We create a safe environment where being wrong or making a mistake is acceptable and expected! Students read and ask questions while reading. I encourage kids to speak or ask in the moment.\r\n\r\nAll these students enjoyed the book thoroughly as they sympathized with Robin and struggled alongside her. We've all had identity crises, and reading about Robin's made us feel less lonely, more comforted in our shared trauma. \r\n\r\nStudents loved the different foods, music, and lifestyle they learned about in the text. And with this being a graphic memoir, a first in our department, students were fascinated and enraptured with the saturated images and explosive dialogue. As I continue to teach, I will use the book as a way to enlighten students on the much-needed discovery of different cultures.","fullyFundedDate":1727999639391,"projectUrl":"project/discovering-resiliency-through-change/8432106/","projectTitle":"Discovering Resiliency through Change","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Starnes","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9559731_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1718117903132","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9559731"},{"teacherId":312608,"projectId":9053174,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous donation of art supplies and tissues for our rock painting project. With your help, they were able to take a creative break from their routines, express themselves artistically, and create lasting memories—all while having fun.\r\n\r\nThe opportunity to design and paint their own rocks gave students something to be proud of, and they are thrilled to be able to take their beautiful creations home. It has also sparked increased interest in our Flex Time sessions, where students can enjoy enrichment activities, receive extra academic help, or simply take a moment for their mental well-being.\r\n\r\nYour contribution not only brought color and creativity into our classroom, but it also helped build a sense of connection and joy. When the materials arrived, my students were thrilled. They daily asked when they would have the opportunity to work with them. When the day finally came, my Physical Science students received hands-on experience with the circuit kits and enjoyed reading about real-world applications of electricity in The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind. \r\nWhen my students used the circuit kits and the fans whirred, the excitement was hardly containable. Dare I say, it was \"electric.\" \r\nThe next step in my project is for students to conduct group discussions of relevant information read from their books. Students explored how real differences can be made in the lives of others when you pursue your passion. \r\nAs I watch them using these materials, my passion for teaching is renewed as well. My students' enthusiasm to learn more about electricity as they relate it to our former units on chemistry is awe-inspiring. The learning process is evident as the groups discuss what is happening between the batteries and the hum of the motors, how the electrons are moving through the wires and light bulbs burn brightly. \r\nWithout your generous donation, my students would not have had the same outcome for learning science.","fullyFundedDate":1734703733344,"projectUrl":"project/its-electric/8863392/","projectTitle":"It's Electric!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Watson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9796583_orig.jpg?crop=288,288,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1742397702674","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9796583"},{"teacherId":2289734,"projectId":8753110,"letterContent":"In the last couple of years, reading has been exploding at my school. English teachers have really prioritized independent reading for those students. Our English teachers bring their classes to the library regularly to choose independent reading books. Sometimes, I do book talks and let them know about all of the great reads in our library. Our teachers then give students time during class to just read!\r\n\r\nThis has created a domino effect of reading among our students and they are always wanting the book their friend is reading or the book they heard about. I have struggled to keep books on the shelves and always having students asking for particular books. \r\n\r\nThis donation helps me have multiple copies of popular books on the shelves are students aren't having to wait for books.
