A typical day starts with a warm welcome from me to my students. Students enter a friendly and welcoming environment. This sets the stage for all students to give their best. Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much. Together we can meet the demands of the most deserving of children.
My students are primarily low income students with approximately 90 percent qualifying for free and reduce lunch.
Our school is nestled in the heart of the city. At our school we service a large population of Special Education students. Our students have a passion and an eagerness for learning. They are excited about each new school day and what it offers to their intellectual capacity. Students care about each other and are invested in their school community. Many utilize our after school program to help them improve. This is a testament to their strong commitment to their education and their future.
My Project
Each day the students enter the room and with the use of the projector are able to see what the day's objectives are. Additionally, the projector is used to project each day's entrance activity. Students know immediately what the first assignment is and can immediately begin that task. Furthermore, students are able to use the projector to model and project final writing and research products to share with the class.
Also, given the opportunity to use the Chromebooks, I can tailor assignments for students’ specific needs and they can work on those assignments at their independent level.
Students can access Google classroom, and and use may educational apps to support their learning. Finally, with the addition of the Chrombooks, students with occupational and neurological issues can type their papers and have a sense of pride by turning in products that are neat and have met the Common Core Standard for Writing and publication using technology.
The donations will help improve students' ability to use technology to support their learning. This will give them the chance to work with 21st century technology and make them better able to meet the demands of college and career. Also, the use of the projector can remove for some students that are visually impaired a barrier, thereby giving them equal access to the curriculum and content. With the use of the technology students can interact with each other via Google classroom.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
