My students need a variety of options to choose from to learn their best. With more ability to choose where they sit to learn, they are learning a deeper sense of independence and self-awareness.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have a group of 27 students who vary with both abilities and physical needs. I have 15 girls and 12 boys entering my classroom in August 2019 and I am so excited to start the year off on the right foot. My students are between 6 and 8 years old and come from a community that is becoming over 75% low socioeconomic status. After meeting my students last year I am very excited to say that my students are going to make great strides this year and I would love to help make them as successful as possible. We are doing flexible grouping this year and I am taking on the lower reading ability group which I am excited to take on the challenge.
My Project
Wow! I can not tell you how amazing a different approach to teaching has helped not only classroom management but also student learning. The wobble chairs allow for students to sit comfortably but slightly wobble in a circle or back in forth to allow them to fidget while learning. The exercise balls and seat cushions allow for student safety to wobble back and forth or slightly bounce up and down so that the extra energy a 7-8 year old might have can be channeled into the seating and less into distracting not themselves from learning. The ability for students to have slight movements through these items will allow them to channel more of their attention on the curriculum and less on trying to find something to release their energy on.
The basis of the research stems from making students more independent in their learning and also becoming much more self-aware of their learning habits.
I want to give the students in my classroom the most choices so that they can start to become deeper thinkers when it comes to what works best for them. In life, we are filled with choices of where to go and how to do out best work and I want to begin to instill those skills into my students as well.
