My Students

Teachers cover the 'common 'core' I want my students to be flexing 'their core'. My Physical Education class is fairly academic, but we do a lot of interesting activities such as the Haka, cricket and rugby. However, while we are studying, I want my students to remain physically active.

My students urban youth, 70% free and reduced lunch.

We are the first high school in our urban district to follow the International Baccalaureate program. Our students are culturally diverse, bright and motivated, but many of them do not have the economic resources of their peers in suburban school districts.

My Project

My students will use these athletic balls to sit on during class. Whether students are engaged in research, reading or learning, they will be using these balls to strengthen their physical core while learning. The chairs my students sit in are static in nature and do not allow the flexibility and engagement bouncy balls can produce.

The obesity in children in American is increasing.

Many students sit in classes all day with little opportunity for exercise. While we have physical education classes at Gambold Prep, it is not enough. Students should be physically active even while sitting down and learning. These balls will make a difference by allowing students to remain dynamic while in a static environment.
