Mrs. Ozaki from Honolulu HI is requesting Art Supplies through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.

The Colorful Melting Pot

Help me give my students the opportunity to create paintings using both tempera and acrylic paints. The drying rack will help to keep their art pieces flat and allow them to dry properly.

My Students

Our students are multifaceted and inquisitive learners, who are working towards being the leaders of tomorrow. I have the privilege of working with them, by grade level, every six days as their art teacher. Not only will we be working on addressing the fine arts standards, but I want our art class to be an extension of their classroom. I want to work closely with their classroom teacher to enhance what they are already learning in class, using a variety of media, literature, technology, music and creative movement. I am so excited about the endless possibilities, and I hope that will translate to my students as well.

Let's be mindful of the modalities of how children learn, so that each of them can feel successful when they step into the art room.

My Project

We were so fortunate to be able to start off this school year with art supplies that were purchased through two Donors Choose projects. The students were able to use watercolors and paints to create their art pieces using brushes, cups, string and marbles. They were beyond excited to be able to get a little messy, while creating their masterpieces.

I want to keep their excitement and inquisitiveness going, and to continue to build on the solid foundation that we worked on this year.

We made it work this year, and my hope is that with every year, we build a better and more diverse art program at our school.

My students had the opportunity to "dip their toe" into what art is this year. Next year, let's wade a little deeper into that colorful melting pot. We were limited by the amount of supplies that we had for the 550 students this year, but I am hopeful that with the acrylic and tempera paints, and drawing paper, the students will be able to delve that much deeper, to express their creativity.
