This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Students who enter school speaking primarily a language other than English have the double load of learning both language and content simultaneously. This has been especially difficult for new students during distance learning. English Learners are without the resources, materials, and daily language support that they would normally have in the classroom.
My Project
These crayons will help students illustrate their writing with multicultural characters and characters that reflect their own families and community. During hybrid instruction, students can use these materials whether they are learning in the classroom or virtually from home. Traditionally, BIPOC students have not had many options for colors to use to represent their own hair, skin, and eye colors, or those of their friends from around the world. Whether students are illustrating a story or creating a self-portrait, these materials will give them what they need to do so, in a way that honors all people.
