Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is an urban high school. I am the class advisor for the Class of 2021 in a low income, urban district in Connecticut where they were is a great focus on students completing high school in 4 years and becoming college and career ready.
There is a learning curve for students as they begin to figure out who they are and how they fit into high school and eventually determine who they want to become.
Some students really struggle with this and run the risk of becoming disengaged from the classroom and the school community.
As a teacher and class advisor, I strive to provide a welcoming, comfortable environment for my students. This involves building strong relationships with my students and providing them with the support and materials they need to be successful and stay engaged.
My Project
As a the Class of 2021 Advisor, I am lucky to work with a dedicated group of students who want to help make their school a better place and work toward having the best class events possible. The students I work with are leaders in their classrooms, on the fields, and in the various clubs and committees they are a part of.
The Cricut and the vinyl will be used to create displays and posters for homecoming and fundraisers and create custom favors that will be given out during class events.
We will be able to save money because we can purchase blank materials like water bottles or tee shirts in bulk. My students will be able to customize these items to their liking and will not be limited by online other platforms. They will be able to show their pride in their school and their class.
