Ms. Bundy from New York NY is requesting reading nooks, desks & storage through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need a rug for our classroom library. It will provide an area for kids to read openly, allows for me to work with small groups, and will give students space when working on projects.

Describing my students is a hard task due to school starting next month. As a teacher the joy and laughter from my students will soon fill my classroom. 3rd graders are a unique group in the sense that they walk in the classroom with smiles and love for a person they do not even know yet; me. Each year the students are different, in not in the sense of physical characteristics but personality.
The group of students will learn to grow as a school family and will make memories that will last forever.
I want to help establish a room that gives them the feeling of safety but also hospitable. This cannot happen unless materials can be implemented to create this sense of home for my students. I want them to be able to escape the outside world due to many of them coming from at risk environments. My students deserve to be happy and excited about their new classroom just as much as I am.
These students, like most, should not have their creativity stifled or confined to a desk.
Their physical space should be aligned with their mental space, both allowing flexibility and opportunity for exploration!
I work very hard to personalize learning for the students in my classroom. Working together with my students I learn what they like and how they learn best.
My students have the autonomy to make decisions for themselves.
Some like to sit in a more traditional space (think desk and chair) and others prefer to work on the floor, in a rocking chair, or on the sofa.
This is my 4th year teaching at this school and during my first year, there was supposed to be a classroom rug available, however, when I spoke with school administration and the custodians about the rug, it was nowhere to be found. During the previous school year, it was very challenging to create a comfortable space for the students to come together and learn.
Morning meeting is our time to share our work needs as a community. Consequently, we had to conduct our gatherings while sitting on the hard floor. The discomfort forced me to shorten our morning meeting times. Our sharing time is always a fun and important part of our day, however having a comfortable place to share would make the experience much more enjoyable.
