Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are awesome! They are so inquisitive and eager to learn. Learning about history and current events are topics that are of great interest to them. I just know they are going to dig deep in our upcoming unit on Civics and US government. They also love hands on actvities and visuals, especially Legos, which we have been able to incorporate into other units as well, with great success.
Building the White House, the ultimate visual of US government, while learning about the building blocks of our government, will really help to keep the students engaged and surely make it a memorable classroom experience.
The students have typically been very focused on finishing their Lego projects and know that class time is given once the materials presented during class have been introduced and work has been completed. The students also work together and it is great to see some of the quiet students step up into leadership roles to make sure everyone is doing their jobs. I have found all of the lessons we have done that have included Legos to be very successful on many levels and well recieved by my students. I hope they get the opportunity to experience this with our government unit as well.
