Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students have devoured the books in my class, and are hungry for more! My students meet each day in book clubs in order to read, question, debate, analyze, and enjoy books. My students are very invested in this daily activity, but we have run out of books to read!

I teach in a low-income neighborhood in New York.

My students are primarily Hispanic and African American. They are funny, adventurous, hard-working, and intelligent. Most do not have access to books to read at home nor a parent or guardian available to take them to the library on a regular basis.

My Project

I am requesting some thrilling and rigorous books for my students to share! I use these books in book clubs, so the books have to be captivating enough to sustain their interest. That's why I have chosen books that are instant investors, catching and maintaining my students' interest on the first page. These books will grow their love of reading while assisting them in become more confident, competent readers.

This project is vital to the success of my students.

They are behind in grade level based on a variety of factors. Some of these factors are out of our control, but we can control the quality of resources they are exposed to everyday at school. Please help in changing what we can change so that my students can truly have a shot at success.
