This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are low to middle-class African- and Latino-Americans with a tremendous thirst for knowledge. Our school is one of the last predominantly African-American traditional public schools in LAUSD.
We want to help make our students successful in and out of the classroom.
Although many of our students don't live in the most ideal family situations, they come to school and take in as much as they can. Their home situations are not always conducive to learning what they need to learn, so we must provide the learning atmosphere they need to be successful.
My Project
Think of the best, most comfortable place you like to read. Is it in a chair, in your bed, on the floor, or at a desk? Everyone is different. We are requesting wobble cushions which will offer a comfortable seating alternative.
Many children would prefer to sit or lie on the floor with a good book or to do their homework.
These floor cushions are going to be fought over. My students are going to love sitting on the floor to do their work or learn a lesson. It gets their juices flowing.
Students are going to have these cushions as an option for their chosen form of seating. Groups of students are going to have the opportunity to be as comfortable as they can. It’s going to keep them focused because their bodies are taken care of.
