The Basics

Help me give my students school supplies such as 2-pocket folders and composition books. Many of my students need these supplies to get organized, but also to improve their comprehension by upgrading their study skills.

My Project

I asked for basic school supplies, such as, 2-pocket folders because this year I've noticed that students are keeping all of their handouts for ALL classes in one folder. Inevitably, the folders are ripping and falling apart by the end of the school year. Also, when I ask students to locate a previous assignment, they're often unable to because of the lack of organization. If I can get ahead of this problem next year, I'd like to give students one folder each dedicated to their English class.

In addition, I added composition notebooks to my list because I have students create interactive notebooks every year where they can access their notes and resources in a creative way.

Unfortunately, too many students are unable to provide this one basic school supply every year. Then there are students that try to use a spiral notebook instead, but I find the composition notebooks work better for my class needs.

I also asked for the current events magazine, Up Front, because I find too few students read for pleasure anymore. If they could increase their reading comprehension by reading short articles that also keep them up to date with the news, I'd take that as a win. Access is everything!

Finally, I included colored copy paper and cardstock to my list because my school only supplies white copy paper to teachers. I have students listen to podcasts once a week and we use the colored copy paper for our note-taking template. It's easy to color code each week with a different color, and it's another way to help students stay organized.
