Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I teach Kindergarten through 2nd students. My students come from low socioeconomic homes and the majority live in poverty-stricken neighborhoods. They love school and are thankful to be able to come to a place where they feel safe and know that they are loved. They come to school with huge smiles and are ready to be a part of their future.

My students are bright, and often are overlooked because of their neighborhood or community.

Our school is a Title I public charter school and funding is limited, especially for academic extras. Our students are eager to use their skills and show the world that they have talent. Unfortunately, this is hard, when you are worried about having the support. We are limited with sponsoring items due to funding.

We have dedicated students who work hard, but there is not a means for supporting their creativity. Our students deserve to have every advantage to compete in this ever-changing global economy.

My Project

I teach 300 students and we use a lot of consumable materials like crayons, colored pencils, and markers weekly. These materials will enable my students to continue creating wonderful works of arts, like Goergia O'Keefe Flower Drawings, Picasso, Drawings, and Still Life Drawings.

We love to create and using different mediums help us to focus our artistic skills on creating our personal best.

We always take care of our supplies and will use a broken crayon, sharpened colored pencil nub, and an almost dried out marker until we are unable to use those materials anymore. We would love to create more with materials that will enable us to bring our inner artist out.
