My students need 75 notebooks to create interactive math and science notebooks. They also need other basic supplies, such as filing crates, paper and pens, to give them the organized class structure they need to succeed.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Help my kids take charge of their learning! My students need to master study skills like organization, taking notes and finding information. Creating their own notebooks for math and science will give my kids ownership over their learning and the structure they need to learn those important skills!
My 7th and 8th graders attend a traditional public middle school of 1500 students in California.
I teach self-contained special education math and science which means that all my students have mild to moderate learning disabilities and need more support than students in general education. The majority of my students have specific learning disabilities and need a lot of structure, routine and scaffolding to learn. They are full of energy but haven't felt successful in school because of a lack of foundational skills. My students read on average at a 2nd grade level and performing math on average at a second grade level as well. My kids are excited to learn but don't know how. They need to be explicitly taught skills like how to take notes, stay organized and review information in addition to math and science content.
My Project
All these supplies will really help my kids take ownership of their own learning and classroom. My students will create interactive notebooks, for math and science. Each student will have one for math and one for science. The notebooks are interactive because I will be able to grade their work and give them immediate feedback on their work all in one place. In them, they will be able to keep all their work and notes pasted in and organized. They will be able to track their progress and see how much they are learning. They will learn how to take notes more independently and how to reference and look up information on their own from their notes. They will also feel proud and successful for having all their hard work in one organized place. The color coded crates and bins will be where they store their notebooks and other supplies in my classroom. The kids themselves will be able to take out and put away their work in a organized way and feel ownership over their own learning.
Having these notebooks, bins, pens and chart paper will make all the difference for my students with special needs!!
It will provide so much more structure in class so my students will be able to keep all their work organized and learn basic study skills! Please help my kids take ownership of and feel invested in their learning!
