Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is a small, community-based school, where art class often becomes a haven for self-expression and a place to highlight skills that are centered around the unifying language of art. My students at our middle school are some of the most creative, brilliant, and socially aware youth that I know. Our school is about 87 percent Latino, and 56 percent of our students are English Learners. In addition, 96 percent of students qualify for free and reduced-price lunch and seven percent of our students are identified as needing special education services.
My Project
Hello my art-loving people! Art classes are places filled with joyful making, growth mindset, and experiments in creation--and all of this requires a lot of materials to make the magic happen.
These materials and supplies will go a long way in our art classes and will be utilized by 150 students throughout the day.
They will be used for a number of projects that explore concepts like identity, culture, artivism, climate justice, poetry and music in visual art, and so much more. Students will be working on their mixed media artworks for their end of the year expos, where they'll proudly display their creative explorations and discuss their learnings throughout the semester.
