My students need high interest science books that they can read independently.

Hooray! This project is fully funded
My students are remarkable people. A majority of my students qualify for free lunches as they come from lower income families with several being considered homeless. Often, they are single parent homes. I have many transient students as we have the North Central Correctional Complex in our town. I am also beginning to see some of the children of the drug epidemic who have cognitive and physical delays.
Many of them deal with difficult issues that no child should have to deal with, yet they come to me eager to learn.
As the focus in education today revolves around Reading and Mathematics, subjects like Science and Social Studies often must be taught during the Language Arts block. This can be somewhat difficult for the lower primary grades as many content books have complex vocabulary and text structure. These are too difficult for students to read independently.
Kids get excited reading about animals!
Scholastics' Science Vocabulary readers help keep that excitement going as they are written for their level and can be read independently. The multiple copy sets also allow small groups to work together for research projects about the different animals.
