Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Help me give my students high interest books about animals. My students are animal lovers and love to read about different animals. I recently added a few titles about animals and they were very popular among my students. I want to keep fostering their love for reading so I decided to create this project. My hope is to have a very diverse classroom library, and I want to add a section about animals.

These books will serve multiple purposes!

One of their purposes will be read-alouds. I love doing read alouds in my class, and this gets my students excited about reading. The books will also be used as mentor texts for our informative unit. One of our writing units is informational writing. These books will allow my students to become experts on specific animals, therefore they will be able to write informational texts. These books will also be used in their independent reading boxes. There are a variety of levels so students will be able to read non-fiction books at their level.

My students will continue to grow as readers with these books. One of my long-term goals is to continue expanding my classroom library. I want my students to be excited about reading and I want to give them access to high quality books in Spanish.
