My Project
In order to help my students develop wonder in their lives and an interest in school, books on the Age of Exploration would help to make our reading block a time of great discussion, inquiry and learning while focusing on reading skills based on the state standards. Our basal reading book and standards-based text lessons do not lead to natural wonder and curiosity but stifle the interests of my students.
I would like to make our reading lessons engaging while incorporating history into our school day.
Our schedule does not give us much time to cover history and without an anchor to the past, students are not learning about the history of Western Civilization. Having access to high interest books based on time periods from the past would help my students to learn about the past while learning reading skills at the same time. It is my desire to help my students learn about Western Civilization and to develop natural wonder and curiosity in what they are learning in class. These books would help me to teach my students about the Age of Exploration in an engaging way and get them excited about what they are learning in class.
