"ABC, as easy as 1-2-3!", according to Michael Jackson; however, some of the students in kindergarten are finding that learning the ABCs is sometimes a bit more challenging. Let's help make learning the ABCs as fun as singing along to The Jackson Five!
We have two full day kindergarten classes and three alternate day classes.
Students in the alternate day classes attend school either two or three times a week. Our school is a very diverse community of learners! We have students from all over the world, including Mexico, Iran, Iraq, Burma, Thailand, Bangladesh, India, Nigeria, and a host of other places. Of the 860 students who attend our school, over 400 of them are English Language Learners. One thing is for sure, students are eager to learn!!!
My Project
Because of the number of students who attend school part time and are living in homes where English is not spoken, it is imperative that we find creative ways to support them at home. The purchase of portable CD players will allow us to send home books on CD, as well as ABC review songs and materials that they can work on independently.
We know that for students to become proficient readers, they need to learn to recognize the letters of the alphabet and the sounds that the letters make.
We believe that this project will greatly impact students' ability to learn the basics of the English language.
We hope that this will be the door that opens up an entire new world of language learning for our kindergarteners!
