This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are all extraordinary kids! Most of these students reside in a poor, urban area that is grossly underfunded, and, in some areas, lacking even the most basic of needs. Although many of them come from tough neighborhoods and lifestyles, they are strong, smart, and full of life. These are the scientists of tomorrow.

Each of these individuals has a mind for science and a contribution to make to the scientific world.

Their ingenuity is exceptional, and their thirst for learning is unquenchable. I learn more from them than they do from me! These kids are the kinds of kids that inspire innovation. They are the example that leaders should be following and the hope that will fuel the future.

My Project

Sometimes, we take for granted how difficult the holiday season can be for some families. In my district, a great many students come from families who struggle with basic needs like food, water, shelter, and clothing. These struggles are amplified during the holidays when the pressure to provide items for holiday celebrations is increased. When the priority is making sure that kids are fed, clothed, and sheltered, sometimes the holidays become a depressing time for families that cannot afford big celebrations.

Families who normally struggle with these day-to-day financial pressures have had their struggles magnified by a pandemic that will surely make providing extra food and items for Thanksgiving this year that much more of a burden - so lets relieve some of that burden for them!

The baskets I am requesting will be filled with food items that are nonperishable and easy to make. I am going to put a gift card in each basket to help these families in purchasing a turkey or ham for their dinner. I will include pans, plates, and napkins for them and distribute them to the students who need it most. If this project funds quickly, I will start another one with the same or similar items so that more families can be reached in the building.
