Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a Title I school where 100% of our students receive free and reduced lunch. My students are faced with many challenges every day. I have students that struggle with hunger, they are in and out of homeless shelters, and they help to raise their siblings when their parents are at work or absent from their lives. At our school, we have over 90% of our students that are English Language Learners.
My students are full of joy and have an eagerness to learn.
They deserve far more than they are given. There are some days when it is hard to come to work, but then I remember how much these students mean to me and how much I mean to them.
My Project
I am very humbled and grateful for the opportunity to be chosen by the Big 12 as a My Teacher, My Hero recipient. I am going to use the gift card they gave me for some wonderful things in my classroom.
The organizational tools will allow me to be a better teacher, and the books will be loved by every child that reads them.
My students are already excited to get some new books! I have selected some fun series books such as Junie B. Jones, as well as Dr. Seuss and Amulet. My students are ready to read some of their favorite classics. I have also chosen some books that are based on the seasons so that my students have the chance to read some good factual books that have to do with the season we are in!
This gift will not only boost the moral and confidence of my students, but it will drive me to continue to do my best for my students and their families.
