All of my students will become parents in less than 9 months! They are in the 7th-12th grade and pregnant. In their regular courses (English, Math, Science and History), we do not address the aspects of labor & delivery, caring for a newborn and parenting. But this is information needed by these students right now. Most of my students are from single family, low income homes and 56% receive free and reduced meals. These families do not have the luxury of purchasing many of the items needed for a nursery. Nor do they have access to the educational materials needed to get them through this stage of their life. To meet both of these needs, I have collected donations of baby items, but need your help to enlarge my in-class library. Students will be able to read a book on labor & delivery, parenting, raising a happy child, nutrition, etc. Students would then write a short summary of the book they read and earn the baby care items that they need. I have chosen books in about parenting, pregnancy and nutrition to be purchased from Barnes & Noble. I thank you in advance for providing resources to help these students accept and excel in their parenting responsibilities.
