Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
It's that time of the year! We will soon be taking "The Big Test." In order to prepare for this test, we will be reviewing key math standards. Students have a 15-page packet of math review that they have to complete to get their ticket to the "Test Prep Carnival." Having this carnival helps to keep students engaged and motivated at a time when most of us are burnt out.
Engaged learners are motivated, inspired, and willing to invest effort in learning.
In addition to the math review, students will participate in building their carnival games. This will take place in the afternoon after testing. This will help students destress after testing in the morning.
Finally, when we have completed all testing, we will have our "Test Prep Carnival!" Every year students look forward to this day. It is always a big hit. In the days leading to this event, students earn tickets to use at the carnival to play games and "buy" snacks. They also earn prizes after playing games. It's a great culmination to testing and our school year.
I am requesting snacks like chips, cotton candy, and popcorn. I am also requesting prizes like slime, mini cars and planes, and punch balloons. We can't have a carnival without candy and decorations. Having these items will enhance students' experience at the "Test Prep Carnival." It will allow me to incentivize students at a time in the year when it is difficult to engage and motivate students.
