My Students

I teach at a Title l school in the southwestern United States where I am teaching the first ever technology lab at our school. My students are very excited to learn about technology and the idea of blended learning where they can learn literacy standards and math standards through technology. The vast majority of my students do not have access to computers at home which further inhibits their access and exposure to technology.

I work at an at-risk school in Las Vegas, Nevada with students from all over the world which means servicing many different cultural backgrounds and bridging the language and learning gap.

We have students from Mexico, Cuba, South America, China, Ethiopia and many others. The majority of my students are English Language Learners. Many of my students have had very limited or no schooling in their home language and very little exposure to books and early literacy. Needless to say, my students need all the help they can get and they appreciate all that we do for them.

My Project

We are hoping to build a classroom set of computers where all students can access technology simultaneously. This is the first year that our school is providing the students with a technology class. Currently, students are in a lab with outdated computers in an open area that cannot be secured in case of an emergency.

We need a computer lab in a classroom where we can use technology in a safe and secure environment where an entire class can work together.

Due to lack of technology and large class sizes, it is difficult for students to have access to computers and technology. To streamline the students' learning we want to provide them with consistent and up to date technology where all students can learn and access material at the same time.

This computer lab will prepare our students for the 21st century. It is essential that these students become avid computers users to become successful in the future.
