Ms. Thomas from Chicago IL is requesting computers & tablets through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
Help me give my students a chance to close the reading gap between them and their more affluent peers with 10 tablets to provide daily access to data researched programming to improve literacy.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My students attend our school, which is located in a very low-income area with a high crime rate. I teach diverse learning English and History to students who are filled with curiosity and so eager to learn, but they are severely below their grade level in reading and comprehension. This negatively impacts them in all subject areas and in life. Although they don’t live in ideal conditions, they dream just as big as any other children.
Unfortunately, due to a lack of technology in the classroom, it is difficult to provide the supplemental supports that could bridge gaps in their learning (Reading/English Language Arts) and expose them to the technological advances they will need to compete in the future.
Access to this technology will give them a fighting chance.
The 10 Amazon Fire tablets will be used to create a "Reading /Literacy Station" in a Special Education English Language Arts (ELA) classroom. Students that are reading well below grade level will be guided in small groups through reading programming, where they will be assessed in real-time and able to receive immediate interventions through the use of technology. This will make them better prepared for ELA content and life.
The tablets will help many students.
As a special education teacher, I teach classes in my room and assist general education teachers by providing interventions and strategies in their classrooms to their diverse learner population and general ed population.
The impact of these 10 tablets will be far reaching.
