Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are scientists, mathematicians, authors, illustrators, and imaginators.
I teach at a Title I School in Texas where more than 90% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
All of our students are considered high risk and live in a low income community that was affected by Hurricane Harvey. Even though my students face lots of challenges in and out of school every day, they come to school excited and eager to learn.
My goal is to continue to enhance their thirst for knowledge, and to be able to provide anything they need to be successful.
My Project
Kindergarteners need a strong foundation of number sense. I want to be able to provide my students with plenty of activites using the ten frames, so they automatically think of different number patterns and have a strong sense of ten.
A ten frame is a very useful device that we use in math to help our students with counting, comparing, and place value.
It is a two-by-five rectangular frame into which counters are placed to demonstrate less than or equal to ten. This allows students to form mental images of the numbers represented, and to visually see patterns that will help them with addition and subtraction.
Please help my little mathematicians and I get a variety of ten frame activities, games, and flashcards to make math more hands-on and fun.
