They now have access to new, engaging bilingual books that they use every day during our library center time. Students are exploring stories in both English and Spanish, building their vocabulary while also learning how to properly handle and care for books. These daily interactions are helping them develop important early literacy skills and a deeper appreciation for reading.\r\n\r\nWhen the new books arrived, the excitement in the classroom was immediate. My students couldn't wait for their turn in the library center—they eagerly picked up books, flipped through the pages, and shared stories with their classmates. Seeing their enthusiasm and curiosity grow has been incredibly rewarding, especially knowing that for many of them, this is one of their first experiences with books.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, these resources will continue to support our learning in powerful ways. Students will hear and use new vocabulary, strengthen their comprehension, and gain confidence expressing themselves in both languages. With more opportunities to practice the skills we are working on each day, they are building a strong foundation as future readers. Your support is truly making a lasting impact on their learning journey.","fullyFundedDate":1778018361094,"projectUrl":"project/building-bilingual-readers-one-book-at/10214588/","projectTitle":"Building Bilingual Readers, One Book at a Time","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Martinez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3445382_orig.jpg?crop=975,975,x0,y32&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1725039762915","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3445382"},{"teacherId":3445382,"projectId":10186129,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generosity, my students now have engaging resources they can use all summer long. My students immediately began brainstorming when and how we wanted to share them with our school family.\r\n\r\nOne day, a student shared that her older sibling in 4th grade was nervous about taking the STAAR test. Other students quickly chimed in and shared that their siblings felt the same way. This opened the door for a meaningful conversation about empathy and understanding how others feel. Together, we brainstormed ways to encourage them. My students decided to pass out motivational pencils and bookmarks with positive phrases, reminding students that they had worked hard and would do their best.\r\n\r\nMy students also shared \"You're Tacoriffic!\" pens with teachers as appreciation gifts. The teachers were so touched and appreciative of the kindness shown by our kindergartners. My students loved seeing how something so small could brighten someone's entire day.\r\n\r\nAnother day, I shared with my class that one of my teacher friends was having a difficult day. I asked my students what we should do to help. They immediately decided to create sticky notes with motivational messages using materials we already had in our classroom. Accompanied by our school security guard, we walked around the parking lot placing encouraging notes on staff members' cars. We had one sticky note left that said, \"You are amazing.\" One of my students asked if he could personally give it to our security guard. He proudly placed it on his desk and shared that he keeps it there as a daily reminder.\r\n\r\nThis became a powerful lesson for my students. We talked about how even if we do not always have supplies or gifts, we can still spread kindness through thoughtful words, handmade notes, encouragement, and caring actions.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, my students have learned the importance of compassion, empathy, and kindness. While they may seem small, they make a big difference in our kindergarten classroom every single day.\r\n\r\nThe white drawing paper and Expo markers are used daily during writing lessons, giving students consistent opportunities to practice drawing, labeling, and early writing skills. Birthday crowns have become a special tradition in our room, helping each child feel celebrated and valued on their big day.\r\n\r\nThe clear plastic name badges have been especially important at the beginning of the school year. Many of my kindergarteners are shy or still learning their full names, and these badges help special area teachers and cafeteria staff identify students easily while building confidence and independence.\r\n\r\nThe organization tools have been a game changer. The under-shelf drawers give us a designated place for remote controls we often misplaced, and the spice racks keep our Expo and Vis-à-vis markers organized and accessible. One of the most impactful items was the large digital clock. Not only can I see the time from anywhere in the room, but students are now learning to tell time and understand our daily schedule. They no longer ask repeatedly when lunch, recess, or specials are—they can check the clock themselves.\r\n \r\nWhen some items were unavailable, we replaced them with balloons and a balloon pump, which have been used throughout the year for engaging activities, including our Thanksgiving balloon parade and Grinch Day. Balloons bring excitement and joy to learning and help create memorable experiences for students.\r\n\r\nBecause of this project, our classroom runs more smoothly, students are more independent, and learning is more engaging and fun.
