My students are ages 3-7, grades Preschool-First grade. My class includes 55-60 at-risk students who have a range of disabilities such as students with Early Childhood Developmental Delay, Cognitive Impairment, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and Speech and Language Impairment.
Dream, think, communicate, learn.
My students have communication needs. Many of my students have difficulty understanding language and cannot express themselves successfully to get their needs met consistently in their educational setting.
Children love to share with others what is important to them. Giving my students the tools to communicate is paramount to their language acquisition and growth. It is amazing to see the sparkle in their eyes as others begin to understand them and they begin to understand the usage and social contexts of language.
My Project
These book sets will enhance the literacy rich classroom that I have established. My students love "book time." They get their reading cushions and they “read” to the class independently!
These book sets will allow my students to "read" independently, cooperatively, and bring these stories to life.
With these new book sets, my students will be able to choose from an assortment of books that will allow them to choose books that foster their interests.
My students may not have many book choices at home. Language and literacy skills continue to be developed and enriched through books. These book sets will allow students to interact with each book building on their skills.
