My Students

My science classroom is a place of challenge and discovery. Students spend this year learning fundamental comprehensive science knowledge and skills they will need as they move forward in advanced topics. My elective students learn how to build and program their own bots and build science projects for the SECME Club!

The students are 6th through 8th grade in a low-income public middle school.

They are excited to explore the world of biology, physics, meteorology, anatomy and more to learn and to expand their capacity for critical thinking. They take pride in their efforts and are willing to challenge their minds for the sake of learning. My elective students are always building their inventions and projects.

My Project

When I was a middle school student, I looked through a telescope and saw Saturn. That started a long-lasting passion for science. I hope to share this with my students. It was truly a life-changing moment for me. At least, I know they will love it!

My students would love to see the moon and stars through a telescope to experience the planetary and heavenly bodies in space in a new way.

They will also use the book about the moon and the star-finder as a resource before the document their observations in the astronomy notebook. I will allow the students to take the telescope home for a night, with the schedule focused mostly on full moons as well as waxing and waning gibbous.

Hands-on activities and labs are so important in science. This is not only a fun activity, but has intense educational value. It will reinforce space science as well as the importance of inquiry and observations.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
