Teens Need Nonfiction Books to Improve Their Reading Confidence!

Help me give my students a better nonfiction classroom library with an iPad mini for Ebooks and an array of physical books, too.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

These nonfiction books in a mixed-media format will continue to enhance my classroom's print-rich environment. These resources--both the iPad mini and the physical copies of nonfiction books-- will specifically aid in developing the nonfiction section of my classroom library. My classroom library is a place where my students can find exploration and comfort-- they complete work, read independently, and chat about books there! The books included in the library are carefully selected to represent diverse cultures, experiences, and backgrounds.

Students are thankful for the opportunities to read widely and deeply in the subjects that interest them.

All of these books--plus the ebook collections curated through Sora and Libby on the iPad-- have been chosen with my students in mind. I have observed them reading and then searching for books such as these, and I have also surveyed them about nonfiction books they would like to read. Students will be able to choose their next independent reading titles from these new nonfiction books, which will help them enjoy independent reading time!

With these new reading resources--both as ebooks and physical copies--my students can choose from a variety of high-interest, literary nonfiction books that will allow them to read independently at a high school grade level.

The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow their reading abilities. My students have shown a clear interest in independent reading and having agency over their reading selections, and this project will only help enrich their experiences with the printed word while encouraging them to engage with books in a new and different way that will help prepare them for college, career, and beyond!
