My Project

As a high school counselor, I work with students in grades 9-12 on academic, personal/social, and career/vocational areas of life. One of the biggest challenges I have seen since COVID is emotional deregulation and a lack of coping skills.

I work with my students to identify the early stages of feelings such as anger or anxiety in order to implement healthy coping skills before these feelings and emotions take over and have negative consequences.

It is amazing to see how something as small as a squishy or fidget toy can help students use their hands to release some of their feelings. Having flexible seating also helps students feel more comfortable releasing negative energy from their bodies as they experience a range of emotions.

The requested sensory tools and resources will help me more effectively work with my students to better understand their feelings and how to effectively manage them in a healthy way!
