My jazzercise program needs 20 exercise mats, a headset microphone and a cd player.

I am a school nurse is a middle school of about 1450 students. In my career as a nurse, I have seen a steady rise in childhood obesity, type 2 diabetes and other chronic health issues in children. I have also seen an increase in injuries due to lack of exercise, strength and tone of major bones and muscle groups.

Many of my students come from low income families who do not have the necessary resources to provide or promote good health and exercise. Because many school budgets are cutting back and not providing adequate physical education classes, many children are not getting any form of exercise on a routine basis. This is only contributing to the chronic health conditions of our children.

I am obtaining my certification in Youth Jazzercise and want to offer a free Jazzercise program after school for students to come and get an intense workout. This program would be open to all students and may be the only opportunity some of them have to get moving. I will be offering this program on the days that there is a late bus available so that no student is left out because of transportation or cost issues.

Your help in obtaining the supplies needed for this project will allow students to live a healthier lifestyle and help many of them stop the cycle of childhood obesity and type 2 diabetes. Hopefully this program will encourage these students to make other changes in their lives to promote good health and to continue to make good choices which will benefit them later in life.
