My Project

My middle schoolers are a dynamic group of thinkers and problem solvers. What I admire most is their drive to understand complex concepts through hand-on exploration. This edible tectonic plates lab is designed to fuel their curiosity and bring earth science to life in a delicious way. Using graham crackers to model the Earth's tectonic plates and icing to represent the asthenosphere, this lab provides a tangible way to explore plate boundaries and geological formations. The graham crackers allow students to physically simulate the movement of plates, creating convergent, divergent, and transform boundaries. The icing helps them visualise how the asthenosphere interacts with these plates, influencing events like earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
