Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are energetic fifth graders in a dual language setting. They are hardworking learners that are striving to be bilingual and bi-literate in Spanish and English. Each day they walk into class ready to take on the day by being mindful of their thoughts and feelings, open to new things, and push themselves by learning from their mistakes.
My students persevere despite the challenges in their daily lives.
There are many adversities that my students face each day such as living in multi-family homes, 81% free and reduced lunch population, and limited access to necessities such as healthcare, after school opportunities, and safe spaces. Despite this, our community is rich with multiple cultures, languages, and ethnicities from around the world. We look out for each other and work together to ensure success for all students.
My strong and loving students are committed to their education not only for themselves, but for their families as well. I am lucky to have them as students and learn from their tenacious personalities.
My Project
The middle schools that our elementary school feeds into rely heavily on laptops for classroom instruction.Some students have the experience with being on a smartphone or tablet, however these interfaces do not have all the capabilities of a laptop. Students need to have the skills to operate a computer/ laptop.Students need to learn how to use programs such as Word, Powerpoint, and Excel.In addition, they need proper instruction on how to navigate the internet, basic tools available on a computer, and internet safety.
This donation would be used to help integrate technology practices into students' classroom learning and projects.HP Chromebooks will allow students to learn how to navigate the internet safely while researching for evidence to elaborate on their informational essays, create visual presentations to express their learning, and also to listen to audiobooks or podcasts to further cement their curiosity of learning.The students will also learn how to use Google Classrooms proficiently so that they feel confident moving up into the middle school experience.
