Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students in my classroom come from extremely diverse backgrounds, many of whom do not speak English as a first language. Half of the class are also students who have been classified as having some kind of disability, which impairs their learning abilities. Disabilities in the class range from learning disabilities, to speech impairments, to emotional disturbances. My school is located in a low, socio-economic neighborhood, with ninety-seven percent of the students entitled to free lunch. Many of the family members of my students must work numerous jobs just to keep a roof over their heads.
Despite their disadvantages, my students are eager and enthusiastic learners, who have an indescribable drive to succeed.
Outside of the school, they do not have many opportunities to explore areas and places outside of their neighborhood, and are not even aware of the great places that surround them. Similarly, resources are scarce, both at home and at school. Many students do not even have books in their homes and are solely exposed to reading in the classroom. These students deserve the best education I can possibly provide them to help them reach their maximum potential and grow into positive contributors to society.
My Project
The two chrome books I am requesting will allow students access to online resources such as raz-kids, I-ready, Zearn and other apps that will help keep students engage with interactive lessons and prepare them for an increasingly digital workforce.
In today’s age, computer literacy is an integral component of any student’s learning plan by providing students with access to the greatest learning tool ever invented--the Internet--they gain access to resources and information.
As a special education teacher, I provide my students with small group instruction on a daily basis. With the integration of technology, my students will also be able to access some educational games with the use of the chrome books that will make learning fun especially for students with disabilities and attention issues.
