My school is a public charter school providing therapy based education for students living with multiple disabilities. Our students participate in community-based instruction, field trips, and intensive functional therapy services to meet their individual academic and functional needs.
My students are beyond special; they are loving, caring, and funny.
In our classroom, we work together to create a warm environment where the students know they are wanted, loved, and cared for. The items on our wishlist will be used daily during our instructional rotation time. The curriculum we use has a wonderful online portion where my students will be able to gain extra practice. These iPads will not only provide my students with extra curriculum practice but will also provide independence practice which is huge in our room!
The students in my classroom thrive off of structure and routine. One of the ways we address this is personal daily schedules. Each child has their own schedule making up their school day (circle time, recess, academic instruction, lunch, therapies, sensory break, lunch, snack, etc.) One major task we work on is independence. This task is one that is carried over from the classroom environment into the daily lives outside of the classroom. Our curriculum is amazing and has a technology-based portion where my students are able to work on independence.
All students need to practice independence, these iPads will provide a way for my students to not only access our curriculum for extra practice but encourage independence.
My students love being at school and are very excited to learn new things. We can not wait to be able to use these iPads to provide extra experiences in our classroom.
