I teach first grade in a suburban K-5 elementary school. Not only does my classroom consist of your average student, but I also have students with special needs, emotional needs, and students learning to speak English. My school welcomes students from all over the world. Some of my students in my classroom are from economically disadvantaged countries and refugee camps in Nepal and Burma. They speak Burmese, Nepali, Russian, and Dinka, to name a few. These amazing kids have one thing in common - they thrive on learning new things. I want to be able to provide the resources for my students to succeed. My students are eager to learn new things every day. They just need the resources to assist in their learning.
My students are creative, smart, and always up for a challenge.
From the minute they step in my door, they are encouraged to be problem solvers, writers, thinkers, scientists, engineers, mathematicians, historians, good citizens, and most importantly, kids.
My Project
I am asking for 7 sets headphones and 10 mice to support the technology used in my classroom. They will be used for the students in my class who can not afford to purchase their own set of headphones to use with the classroom iPads and Chromebooks. I am also asking for 10 mice to use with the classroom Chromebooks. Some of my first grade students have difficulty using the touchpad on a Chromebook.
Headphones reduce the amount of excess noise students hear as they are working on the iPad or Chromebook; which, in turn, allows them to increase focus on their task at hand.
My students would use the headphones in a variety of ways. They would use them while watching an educational video for science research, listening to a story to build comprehension, or utilizing other educational apps focusing on math, phonics and grammar skills.
I like the students in my class to have their own set of headphones to prevent the spreading of lice or other germs between one another.
