Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Today's classrooms are made up of very diverse learners. My middle school classroom is no exception.
Just minutes away from the border of Mexico in deep South Texas, our school has a very large limited English population.
Because of our school's proximity to the border, our school demographics include several linguistic challenges as families make their homes in our community in order to work in the maquiladoras (factories in Mexico) located just across the border.
My 8th grade ELA classroom includes students who are advanced learners, English Language Learners (or ELLs) and Inclusion students (or students who fall under the special education spectrum). Our needs are vast, and every unique student requires differentiated instruction.
My Project
Through generous donations and the help of Donors Choose my classroom received three Chromebooks this Fall! Please visit my previous project "Unlocking Student Potential with Technology" to see how my classroom was enhanced with the donation of just three Chromebooks! My goal now is to add two more in order to create a technology-driven literacy work station. Academic work stations are a tried and true way to engage students and differentiate their learning. Work stations are designated to provide students with the instructional materials needed to explore, practice, and expand their learning. Technology can provide a powerful tool for "unlocking" student Potential With Technology!
Technology is the key that opens a window to the world and unlocks learning not possible with traditional pen and pencil methods.
Google and Google Suite make it possible for students to integrate technology into every day learning. Funding this project will allow my students to use Google Classroom, and Google Suite (Docs, Slides, and Draw) in order to interact, collaborate, communicate, and research as they learn in meaningful ways.
By providing us with Chromebooks, you will allow me to use technology in a literacy work station where students can develop skills, research, and interact with rigorous content. With just a few more Chromebooks in our classroom, students will be empowered to do so. You have the opportunity to unlock the academic potential of these middle school students by providing them with the tools to receive targeted, individualized learning. They just need the key.
