This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Writing time in my class is a busy, fun, creative time. Students share their writing, receive feedback, and write for various purposes and audiences. Apple iPads will allow for many more possibilities throughout all of the stages of the writing process and will engage and inspire my young authors.

My second grade students are enthusiastic and eager to learn.

They come from diverse backgrounds. Many of them are English learners and come from families with limited resources. They don't always have access to technology. They need frequent opportunities to practice their writing as they work to become proficient and advanced writers. Having iPads in our classroom will enable students to become more well-versed in using technology as well as help them in gathering ideas, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing their finished pieces, both electronically and in print.

My Project

Apple iPads will be used in all five stages of the writing process. In pre-writing, students can gather ideas by researching online and by reading other pieces. They will write rough drafts using Pages, Book Creator, Google Docs, or other apps. Students will be able to collaborate on writing pieces, share writing, and receive feedback electronically from both peers and teacher. This feedback and the use of thesaurus apps will be used for revising. Editing will be helped with spell check and dictionary apps, as well as peer editing. There will be so many exciting publishing choices, including blogs, sharing to our class website, posting finished pieces on the iBooks bookshelves, or printing out beautiful reports, essays, brochures, and other writing projects. Each student can create an electronic writing portfolio with samples of their projects. Students will write throughout all content areas, as well as use the iPads for math, spelling, reading, and other subjects.

Apple iPads will prepare my students for college and career.

Common Core State Standards require students to use technology, create, use critical thinking, communicate, and collaborate with others. Apple iPads are the tools that my class needs to master these standards.
