This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a Special Education Teacher (Life Skills) at Sam Houston Elementary School in Port Arthur, Texas. Most of my students sustained the worst water damage from Hurricane Harvey. These children have low-income households to where they can not even afford to repair the damages. Due to the hurricane most of them were displaced. I teach all subjects, even specials if needed, to students in grades kindergarten to 5th, most of which are KG- 1st grade level. I really enjoy my students, and a new day brings new stories. They come into class each day eager to start their day with something new and exciting to learn. My students' disabilities range from Intellectually Disabled, Autistic, ADHD, and/or Learning Disability just to name a few. This is an extremely hard impact for children that do not take well to change.

My Project

I would like to provide my students with equal benefits as the nearby classrooms. We have had are hard times and still survived. We will keep our hopes up and stay strong. These students were not even able to afford school supplies and uniforms.

I nurtured them, and made sure nothing stopped them from coming to school.

I got some support from my school to make this possible. I went through every storage in the building to find something that I can use to motivate the students, and to keep them smiling.

I had a classroom with empty walls, but day by day (by god's grace) we have grew and made an empty room look lively with even handwritten posters. We can use a printer to print out colorful pictures of them holding their creative work and print their art work from the computer or tablet. They would love to have a print out of what they drew. Even print out the certificates after every lesson they complete as an achievement. They would use the tablet as communication board, interactive tool, educational games, and many other things. I want them to be able to have a feel for something they can not use at home. I want to give them normality. We would be very thankful for all your help.
