Since the storm, I have purchased many items so that it can benefit my children. It is hard for me give my everything to these little angels, as I was also impacted by Hurricane Harvey. My home was flooded, as well as all our cars, and we were rescued by the rescue team. Without thinking twice for myself, I tried to help my students to the best of my ability. In Special Education, I individualize every lesson to meet each student's needs. I was so happy and prepared for my first year of teaching, which upsets me to say I lost in my flooded home. I was not prepared for the worst. It's also sad to say that PAISD Administration Building was also flooded. The Administration building was going to provide me with student IPads and teacher computers, but it has been taken away by Hurricane Harvey. All of my students are tactile and kinesthetic learners. We need supplementary supplies/ blocks/ manipulatives like Jumbo Pegs & Pegboard, Building Bricks, and Squigz Master Set to help with mathematics, literacy, science, social studies, and social skills. Manipulatives help make an abstract idea a concrete concept. This will change their way of thinking from a simple procedural understanding to a more conceptual understanding. My project will make a difference because, as I said before, these students need every advantage that we can give to them. Our classroom is not at the students’ level to meet their needs as learners. Any and all help is appreciated!
