My Students

My students are 4-5 grade non-English speakers, mostly refugees and immigrants. They are in my newcomer classroom for one year to get acclimated and to streamline their English instruction before entering mainstream classroom. My goal is for my students to receive grade-level instructions with adaptive English. They are a sweet bunch of students, eager to explore and dedicated to their learning! My students are from all over the world and have varying English profiecency levels. This makes our class extremely and beautifully diverse!

My Project

It is a challenge to teach important 21st century skills to my students without basic technology to support the classroom learning. With the computers, I would love to have my students complete animal research projects, STEM research, write blogs, create video lessons for other students, and use advanced individualized learning applications, such as iready, lexia, and reading a-to-z.

Having technology in our classroom is the most important component to 21st century learning.

I would like to have student work on advance Project Based Learning incentives but it is challenging using books as the primary source of data and research. My students will be more successful as middle schoolers if they are able to start using computer now in elementary school!
