Technology that Promotes Independence for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students
My students need technology that is made just for them as students with a hearing loss such as a vibrating watch and alerts, so that they are able to self advocate.
Our students are all so unique and have so much to offer the world! They all have a hearing losing that range in levels from mild to profound, we have students that use sign language and students who speak for themselves.
Our students need technology in their homes that is specific for deaf and hard of hearing children to help them be safe, alert and aware of their surroundings.
We teach them how to use technology and what it is for at school, and we would love to offer the same opportunities in the home to low income families.
My Project
Our students need to know what technology is available to them as a student with a hearing loss. Yes, they might live in a "hearing world" but in this day and age we have terminological advances that help all students and individuals with differences. Technology can help promote self advocacy and foster independence, it is just out jobs as teachers to educate students to what is around them ans kiddos with a hearing loss.
When our students are excited to learn and have an accessible classroom with technology that is made just for their unique outlook on life, they take this information back to their parents and help to educate them as well.
