Technology is especially important to our VPK-5th grade students during the school day because many students do not have access to this learning modality at home. Our school is a Title I school located within a large city. The students are eager to learn but come from impoverished homes with limited resources and poor parental support. Many students have not been exposed to a PreK program and thus start school behind other children that have had a variety of experiences before starting formal instruction.
My Project
The digital content in the online program Brain Pop, assists students of all ages with learning content in science, social studies, math, language and more. Brain Pop is a group of educational websites with 1,000+ short animated movies that are educational and engaging. Brain Pop Jr targets the primary grades and Brain Pop targets the older students.
Animated short movies engage students in learning science and social studies content in a fun and targeted way!
My technology classroom will focus on science and social studies topics next year during the focus or beginning part of each class period. A concept will be introduced through Brain Pop and short experiments and demonstrations will then be done using hands-on, real life materials. Next, students will take their newfound content knowledge to the computer to create project and presentations, using the tech skills of keyboarding, word processing and design.
