Do you remember the joy of being read to as a child? What about the first time you read a book cover to cover and wish you could start right over again? Every day my students dive head first into the world of literary magic. Out of the box and critical thinking skills are nurtured in my class where students are expected to question the world around them, form their own opinions, and learn how to stand by their ideas.
The students in my classes are hungry for knowledge, eager to grow, and the true leaders of the future.
Our school population of over 900 students is diverse in language and culture with each student bringing their own unique backgrounds and experiences into the classroom. Located in the heart of Silicon Valley, each day we aim to use every resource available to help our students be dynamic learners in an ever changing world. Every day my students proudly pledge to show respect, make good decisions, and solve problems. These core values guide us each and every day as we learn to not only become great students, but also productive members of society.
My Project
Rudine Sims Bishop said it beautifully when she stated that literature could be the “mirrors, windows, and sliding glass doors” for students to access their own world and the world beyond them. This quote also holds true for access to technology. Daily access to technology is essential for my students to experience the millions of resources that I cannot alone provide in my classroom. With these Chromebooks, my students will conduct research, access online literature, type their written responses, and learn to be responsible digital citizens.
Field trips are few and far between these days, but having access to to the internet will help my students break down the classroom walls that separate them from the world around them.
The Chromebooks I have selected will transition seamlessly into our daily classroom life. My students are already familiar with Chromebooks and have used them in the past and their ease of use with both research and typing is instrumental to our success. Having these Chromebooks will allow twice as many of my students to access technology in my classroom every day.
I have already seen the spark of interest my students have every time we use technology as a tool for learning. Please help me in breaking down the walls that stand between my students and their world.
