Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are living in an environment where they are surrounded by technology and digital stimulation. They are losing interest in the traditional textbook and paper assignments. To engage them, I need to use 21st Century media to enhance my classroom presentations.
My students live in a high poverty section of Orange.
They come to me for their Core Subject of Math. I have been teaching mathematics for over five years. Recently, I have just started teaching using technology in my classes at my school. Although I am reasonably knowledgeable of the current state of technology, I still lack the experience with various forms of technology. In order to work with my students, I need to be up-to-date with all the available digital devices.
My Project
I would like to train myself on the iPad Air 2 and all its educational applications. I'm especially interested in Google Classroom. I would like to learn how to better use the apps for Google Classroom and Microsoft 365. I know that there has been significantly improvements with Microsoft Office 365. I want to learn how to make better presentations with PowerPoint and its new add-ons.
I have read that students are now digital natives. What's more, many of them are interacting in immersive digital worlds. By acquiring the iPad Air 2, I would like to figure out how to implement the device in the classroom to engage my students to help them with their collaboration, creativity, critical thinking, and communication. More importantly, with its visually appealing display, I can enhance my classroom presentations. More and more of how we interact in our society is now accomplished the use of tablet computers. I would like the opportunity to tap into this tool of the 21st Century.
I also realize that in order to keep with my students I must progress.
We can't simply teach what was taught to us 20 or 30 years ago. We can't ignore the fact that more and more people are now learning, interacting, and participating in digital environments via the computer, cell phone, and digital console. In acquiring the iPad Air 2, I hope to learn innovative ways to teach my students. In today's society, communication takes place over the computer and tablet versus the pen and paper.
