My Students

Critical thinkers, problem solvers, communicators, and collaborators; these are the words that describe the creative and dedicated students at my school. More than half of the students are from low-income households, and many are from recent immigrant families. A large portion of students are English Language Learners and acquire learning best through hands-on experiences.

The students rise to any challenge they are presented with, regardless of the circumstances or constraints that may be in their path.

They love tinkering and creating new solutions to real-world problems. Our students are young innovators who learn from each other, their trials, failures, and successes. They know that learning comes from reflecting on what works and what doesn't. I can't wait to see how they continue to grow as scientists, engineers, mathematicians, and technologists, both now and as OUR future leaders.

My Project

Students at our school work together to solve problems and engineer innovative ideas with teammates. During the Engineering Design Process, students are constantly reflecting and improving on their ideas. I use the power of technology to make their voices heard through both tangible resources (Chrombooks and iPads) and digital platforms. Students reflect orally on their ideas using Flipgrid, iMovie, Seesaw, and Chatterpix to name a few!

To make their voices TRULY heard when using these digital resources, we need headphone/microphone adapters to enable our current headphones to both play sounds and record student voices.

Currently, the headphones allow students to listen to their recording or recordings of others; however, students are unable to have their voices picked up, as the microphone feature on the headphones is not compatible without this additional adapter. With over 30 students in our classes, allowing them to complete their reflections at the same time is necessary. When every speaks simultaneously, the recordings and background sounds get picked up very easily.

With the addition of these adaptors for each headphone, it will improve our oral reflections by making them more efficient and effective when students reflect. Student not only enjoy orally reflecting, but grow in their communication, listening, and speaking skills when they are each given an opportunity to speak to reflect. With your help, you'll make these student voices heard even louder!
