Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students I teach are from a Hispanic community of mostly 1st and 2nd generation immigrants. Their home life presents many challenges, specifically learning a new language and culture. The families are very hard working and often work two or three jobs just to make ends meet. Most of their parents work in service industries, particularly in restaurants or construction. When not in school these students are translators and baby sitters for their parents who often work long hours.

My students are incredibly respectful and humble, and are growing up with many more responsibilities than children their age should have.

They are resilient, strong, and happy students who bring the love they experience at home into our classrooms every day.

My Project

These Chromebooks will help three of my students continue their education while NYC DOE schools are closed and students are remote learning. Students are using Google Classrooms right now but not all students have easy access to technology. The Chromebooks will allow the hardest hit students to have the ability to continue learning.

These Chromebooks will help provide some sense of normalcy for students who have had to face one of the most challenging and disruptive changes in their young lives.

Students who can sign into Google Classrooms will not only be able to continue their education but they will also have an outlet where they can communicate with their peers and teachers.
