This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a special education teacher at a Title I elementary school located in the East Village of New York City. My students have diverse needs and abilities in all areas of academics and social-emotional development. Many of my students live in shelters or subsidized housing, and do not have easy access to all of the materials needed to be successful learners. However, despite the challenges they may face at home, my students are passionate about learning and try to do their best every day!
This year my third grade students will face an additional challenge, adapting to the significant changes in their daily routines, academics, and social life due to COVID-19. I want to help them be as comfortable and productive as possible as we navigate this new normal together.
As we start this new school year using a blended learning model, my students deserve a safe and well-equipped learning environment that will allow for them to work to their best abilities given the uncertainties of this school year. To achieve this goal, I ask for your help in gathering the technological tools that I need to ensure that they have access to high-quality digital learning materials.
My Project
This school year is unlike any other! I am teaching a small group of students in the classroom every day, a mix of general and special education students. Due to safety considerations, I need my classroom to be better equipped for presenting content via video and remotely than ever before.
I will be using this laptop in order to access visual tools to enhance my lessons, including interactive graphic organizers and read-alouds for my special education students.
My current laptop is older, and doesn't have the audio and visual capabilities that I need to utilize all the technological components that our curriculum requires this year. Having the right technology to be able to access high-quality digital content for my students will greatly enhance their learning this year!
