Today's students are the leaders of tomorrow. Technology is changing the way we communicate with one another, approach world-wide problems, and research life altering theories and ideas. Today, my students need to become technology natives in order to further their successes of tomorrow.
Currently, I have 30 students in my 4th grade classroom.
They are a very economically diverse group. Our school has a 35% mobility rate with students moving in and out throughout the year. Several families cannot afford a home computer. These families rely on the school to give their children the opportunities afforded to more affluent households. I continually strive to give my "edukids" all of the tools necessary to become the leaders of tomorrow. Today I can lead, guide, and influence children. Tomorrow, these children will lead, guide, and influence this country through thick and thin. I don't want the lack of technology to be a hindrance for my students. Technology has become a necessity in the way we do business, make changes, and grow.
My Project
With the addition of the Apple iPad Mini in my classroom, students will be able to have the Internet at their fingertips. This will allow them to research a wide variety of topics to better themselves in writing, oral presentations, and research skills. Students will also be able to quickly access math and science apps and games to continue their progression toward mastery in these academic areas. For better or worse, kids desire the screen time from various devises. I would like to be able to offer educational guidance from the hands-on approach while students are in my classroom. The iPad can assist me in this goal.
By giving students the chance to begin using various technology programs, software, and devices at an early age, I am hoping to increase problem solving skills and self reliance.
The advantages of having these types of devices in the classroom will not only benefit my current students, but students for years to come.
